Simultaneous analysis of lysine, Nɛ-carboxymethyllysine and lysinoalanine from proteins

Protein quality was assayed by simultaneous measurement of lysine (Lys), carboxymethyllysine (CML) and lysinoalanine (LAL). GC-FID analysis of N-tert-butyl dimethylsilyl (tBDMSi) derivatives of these amino acids was undertaken. tBDMSi derivates were separated on a CP-SIL 5CB commercially fused silica capillary column (25 m × 0.25 mm i.d., 0.25 μm film thickness) employing a thermal gradient programmed from 200 to 300 °C. The identity of tBDMSi derivatives of Lys, CML and LAL was established by GC–MS while FID detection was employed for quantification. We demonstrate a photonic integrated Mach-Zehnder interferometric sensor, utilizing a plasmonic stripe waveguide in the sensing branch and a photonic variable optical attenuator and a phase shifter in the reference arm to optimize the interferometer operation. The plasmonic sensor is used to detect changes in the refractive index of the surrounding medium exploiting the accumulated phase change of the propagating Surface-Plasmon-Polariton (SPP) mode that is fully exposed in an aqueous buffer solution. We present a multistate complete active space second-order perturbation theory computational study aimed to predict the low-lying electronic excitations of four compounds that can be viewed as two disilane units connected through alkane bridges in a bicyclic cage. A quantum-chemical study of the structure, vibrations and SiH bond properties of disilylamine, NH(SiH3)2.

Quantum-chemical calculations at HF, MP2 and B3LYP levels with 6-31G* and 6-311G** basis sets are reported for disilylamine, NH(SiH3)2. The equilibrium structure is found to vary with both level and basis set, all but one of the structures exhibiting a small lack of planarity of the HNSi2 system. The barrier to inversion, however, is found to be very low, at most 38 cm(-1). Vibration frequencies and intensities are calculated. The frequencies are scaled, where possible, either using updated infrared data or with the aid of factors transferred from N(CH3)(SiH3)2. A procedure based on the technique of the pyrolysis-GC/MS has been applied, in this work, in order to determine the composition of synthetic acrylic resins employed in artworks. The method is based on the on line derivatization of these resins using hexamethyldisilazane (HMDS). Results obtained have been compared with those others from direct pyrolysis and in situ thermally assisted hydrolysis and methylation with tetramethylammonium hydroxide (TMAH). Sensitivity using HMDS as derivatising reagent is found similar to that from direct pyrolysis and methylation with TMAH. Better resolution of the most representative peaks has been also obtained. Responsivity measurements of silicon carbide Schottky photodiodes in the UV range

We report on the design and the electro-optical characterization of new classes of 4H-SiC Schottky UV detectors, fabricated employing Ni 2 Si interdigitated strips. We have measured, in dark conditions, the forward and reverse I-V characteristics as a function of temperature and C-V characteristics. Responsivity measurements of the devices, as function of wavelength in the UV range, of package temperature and of applied reverse bias are reported. We also compared devices featuring different strip pitch sizes, discussing their performances, and found the device exhibiting best results.

Limited previous experience with the mean value total dressing (MVTD) method had shown that MVTD energies for closed shell systems are generally better than CCSD(T) ones compared to FCI. The method, previously published as total dressing 2′(td-2′), is based on the single reference intermediate Hamiltonian theory. It is not a CC method but deals in a great part with the same physical effects that CC methods that incorporate amplitudes of triples such as CCSDT or its CCSDT-1n approaches. The control of neuronal cell position and outgrowth is of fundamental interest in the development of applications ranging from cellular biosensors to tissue engineering. We have produced rectangular networks of functional rat hippocampal neurons on silicon oxide surfaces. Attachment and network formation of neurons was guided by a geometrical grid pattern of the adhesion peptide PA22-2 which matches in sequence a part of the A-chain of laminin. Abstract Magnetic molecularly imprinted polymers (MMIPs) were prepared for cocaine recognition by bulk polymerization in the presence of magnetic nanoparticles (MNPs). Two reagents (polyethylene glycol (PEG) and 3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl methacrylate (V)) were used for MNPs modification. MMIPs were characterized and compared in terms of loading capacity, reusability, accuracy and precision for the extraction of cocaine from saliva samples. It was observed that V-MMIPs gave higher physical stability than PEG-MMIPs. Thus, V-MMIP were used for the analysis of cocaine users saliva. Electron-rich β-diketiminate ligands, featuring amino groups at the backbone β positions (“N-nacnac” ligands) have been employed in the synthesis of a range of silylene (SiII) complexes of the type (N-nacnac)SiX (where X = H, Cl, N(SiMe3)2, P(SiMe3)2 and Si(SiMe3)3). A combination of experimental and quantum chemical approaches reveals (i) that in all cases rearrangement to give an aza-butadienyl SiIV imide featuring a contracted five-membered heterocycle is thermodynamically favourable (and experimentally viable); (ii) that the kinetic lability of systems of the type (N-nacnac)SiX varies markedly as a function of X, such that compounds of this type can be isolated under ambient conditions …
